Ziad Bassil's Gear Reviews

The appeal of the Theta ULS is simple. It sheds weight to ease the load, yet its climb and glide reach for the class above. The verdict that it glides like a high-B at 95kg all-up is a clear draw for pilots fresh from A to B. But the place where that glide advantage truly comes alive is at the top of the wing loading. Flown light at the lower end it's easier to handle, but the glide Bassil saw is what the wing shows when it's carrying enough weight. So the Theta ULS isn't a wing to pick from the rating chart alone. Its smooth handling means it sits in the hands even just after stepping up, but pulling the performance out to the end takes a certain amount of flight time and active weight management. Less an easy mid-B than a wing that gives distance back to the pilot who wants to go further on a light frame.
