Gin Explorer 2: A High-B That Competes on Glide, Not Speed

The Explorer 2's strengths are clear-cut: it delivers climb and glide close to the class above without the tension a performance-oriented high-B usually demands. It handles more easily than the Rook 3 and feels remarkably smooth in the air. There is one condition attached to that performance, though. As Bassil advises, you need to load it near the top of the weight range for the float and glide to do their job, and top speed stays at 12 km/h over trim — this isn't a wing that gets ahead by going fast. So what the Explorer 2 does well isn't going fast; it's staying up. Even stepping back from the speed contest, it's a fitting choice for the high-B pilot who wants to stay airborne to the end and fill in distance on glide.
