Ziad Bassil's Gear Reviews

Everything about this wing converges on one question. For a pilot with no intention of competing in the C class, what reason is there to fly anything else? If it damps the jolts of rough air, holds onto weak thermals to the last, and gives nothing away on glide, the question is more than fair. The catch lies in the answer Bassil himself supplies. For a seasoned Mentor 7 pilot to draw level with a 2-liner C pilot in competition, he says, you'd have to sit on the speed bar 35% longer before a draw even comes into view. What this wing closes is not a gap in the equipment but the burden the pilot carries. The Mentor 7 S is less a wing that removes the need to move up to C, and more a wing that makes the choice not to move up something you won't regret. That's why the Bentley nickname fits. Not the fastest car, but the one that carries you the farthest in the greatest comfort.
