Ziad Bassil's Gear Reviews

The Rook 4's strength runs in two strands: the entry feel of the nose lifting first in weak thermals, and the trim-glide efficiency that leads the class. When the two interlock, you get a wing that climbs out earlier on weak days and then slides further. What it gives up in exchange is a measure of smoothness in its behaviour. Bassil himself concedes that its movement and roll are a shade less comfortable than the Maestro 2, and that for sheer cosiness the Mentor 7 S may have the edge. That splits the pilots it suits. If you're after the most comfortable high-B, other options serve you better — but for the intermediate XC pilot who wants to step up gliding efficiency without sacrificing much comfort, it fits exactly. This is less a wing shaped for comfort than one whose comfort balance has been tuned with precision in pursuit of efficiency.
