UP Summit X — A Glider That Joins the Super-High-B Elite

The Summit X's strengths are clear. It transplants the brake authority and gliding feel of the C-class Trango-X into a B-class body, making it faster than the Swift 6 and, in rough air, more comfortable than the Maestro 2. But super-high B is not as forgiving a territory as the name might suggest. A wing of 5.87 aspect ratio felt comfortable in Bassil's flying because he flew it actively at its optimal loading — and he himself notes that it asks for more input than the Swift 6. In the end this glider is a choice for the pilot who wants C-class glide while keeping a B-class safety net close at hand, rather than one who expects the easy comfort of the safety grade. Not because it's an easy wing, but because it returns a near-C-class reward to the pilot who knows how to handle the top of the class.
