Ziad Bassil's Gear Reviews

The appeal of the Verve 23 is simple: it's easier on the hands than the Elan 3, and its glide is strong enough to take on the Photon. But it would be a mistake to read "easier" as "undemanding." It won't hold you up on its own in weak thermals, and because it needs an extra beat to settle into the climb, the coring stays the pilot's job. To pull out its glide — the real strength — you first need hands that can push the bar with confidence. So this isn't an entry-level 2-liner. It's a choice for the experienced pilot looking to step one further beyond the reassurance of a 3-liner. The Verve is less a glider that sells ease than one that lowers the threshold for a pilot just stepping onto a 2-liner — and then pays it back in glide.
